Watching them wrestle on the quarterback place for many years, it is laborious for Pittsburgh Steelers followers or another AFC North rival in charge them for making actual change. However the Browns did not simply gamble in his character. Along with rolling the cube on Watson, Cleveland gave up an arm and a leg to land him as they shipped a king's ransom to Houston that included three first-round picks.

If the primary two components of questionable character and a pricey commerce bundle weren't sufficient, the Browns needed to flip round and make Watson one of many richest gamers in NFL historical past. Whereas his common annual earnings are available in only a few million beneath Aaron Rodgers, Cleveland did one thing that different groups would not dream to do: they made Watson's contract ($230 million) 100% absolutely assured, per Over the Cap.
<p pen to paper for the largest guaranteed contract in NFL history, With out an agent, Jackson gambled on himself and turned down a major contract supply from the Ravens earlier. Now throughout the 2023 offseason, a probably irreplaceable fallout has occurred. Seeing what Watson went for and understanding his price, Jackson -- a former NFL MVP -- turned visibly disgruntled.

Although the Ravens slapped the franchise tag on him when he didn't signal his new deal, Jackson has already taken the freedom of thanking the followers and waving goodbye to the town of Baltimore in a current tweet.

<amp-twitter width="1" height="1" layout="responsive" data-tweetid="1640365152707944450"/>

When requested repeatedly about Lamar Jackson on the NFL homeowners' assembly, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh insisted that all the things was alright and that Lamar can be Baltimore's quarterback this 12 months. Nonetheless, it's extremely clear that these two events aren't seeing eye to eye.

This not solely has a ripple impact on the AFC North however on the Pittsburgh Steelers as nicely. Simply final 12 months, the workforce opted for Kenny Pickett within the 2022 NFL Draft, and plenty of questioned how he would have the ability to rise as much as the problem and go toe-to-toe in opposition to daunting divisional signal-callers. Perhaps the reply is: he won't must.

Even when Jackson goes again on his phrase and stands proud another 12 months in Baltimore, he isn't going to be with the Ravens long-term. Which means the previous MVP (who helped his workforce break a number of NFL speeding data) can take his 45-16 profession document elsewhere.

In the meantime, Watson did not play nice late down the stretch of the 2022 season. At $46 million per 12 months and with no method out of his contract, he must play like a top-tier QB in an effort to be definitely worth the cash Cleveland is paying him.

All of which means the Pittsburgh Steelers might take a step up within the pecking order. Whereas Joe Burrow continues to be going to be a bear to get previous within the AFC North, the Steelers appear to be trending up whereas half of the division is transferring within the mistaken route.

Lamar Jackson could possibly be achieved with Baltimore quickly, and whereas Harbaugh and the entrance workplace should not minimize corners with regards to a franchise quarterback, we might argue that this complete factor stems from the Cleveland Browns doing Cleveland Brown issues with a horrible Deshaun Watson deal. Now Steelers followers can simply sit back their toes and see how this complete factor unfolds.

[ad_2]
Source link
